This course is designed to provide the educational base you need to become professionally recognised as a chartered engineer. You’ll learn to apply the principles of structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics and hydrology, environmental engineering, materials, surveying and construction. You’ll also discover the latest techniques and developments, such as low- carbon materials and sustainability. For this degree we’ve partnered with the world-renowned BRE to give you access to specialist facilities, projects and lectures.

The School has over 50 years' experience of teaching engineering and has established an excellent international reputation This degree allows you to benefit from the use of laboratory facilities and staff expertise at BRE (formerly Building Research Establishment).


Employment prospects for civil engineers are strong, both in the UK and overseas. The UK government recently announced major infrastructure projects worth around £460bn, while global construction is expected to grow by some 75% by 2025. Graduates can go on to careers in multinational consultancies, as well as smaller design and project management companies, utility companies and the public sector.
