Course programme

An understanding of many contemporary issues, such as biotechnology and global warming, requires a grasp of fundamental biological ideas. This programme will develop your practical skills and broaden your understanding of concepts such as genetics, molecules and cells, reproduction and biodiversity. This AS/A Level can be taken on its own, combined with other AS/A Levels or a vocational qualification.
You will achieve an AS or A Level in Biology.
You will learn through taught sessions, practical investigations, coursework and self-directed study. At AS Level you will complete two external assessments of 75 minutes each and one coursework assessment. In the second year you will complete two external assessments of 90 minutes each and one coursework assessment.
Successful completion of the AS is needed to progress to the A Level units.
