About the course

Class sizes are small and teaching staff are supportive and friendly. Many of the areas in which you may choose to specialize are supported by staff research, such as aspects of molecular or environmental biology.

You will be taught through a wide variety of methods including lectures, tutorials, seminars, laboratory and field work, small group work and supported self study. Experts in particular areas of biology regularly give talks and presentations as guest speakers.

Throughout your studies you will have access to the university’s modern, well-equipped laboratories where you will have the opportunity to enhance your practical lab skills.

What you will learn

In your first year of studies you will establish your understanding of the core principles and theories of biology. In your second and third years you will have the opportunity to select a particular study route, enabling you to carry out more focused study in your chosen subject areas.

Whichever route you choose you will develop a range of subject-specific skills and knowledge. You will also enhance your practical, analytical, interpersonal and presentation skills which will support your continued development after you graduate.
