This course illuminates the changing faces of his evolution by considering contrasting performances of a representative sequence of seminal songs. We shall track the remarkable unfolding of Bob Dylan’s career, from classic Sixties compositions up to his most recent album of original material, Tempest (2012).

By comparing different renderings (by Dylan and others) of a variety of songs, we shall consider the protean nature of Dylan’s work, and discuss both the consistency and the disparate nature of his achievement.
