This Managing Asbestos course has been designed to provide delegates with information and guidance on the risks of working with or around asbestos. This course will give guidance on recognising asbestos within buildings and facilities and what to do when asbestos is present. Delegates will gain knowledge of the legal mechanisms in place to control asbestos and be given guidance on the duty to manage asbestos in the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2006. BOHS P405 Management of Asbestos in Buildings

Course Outline / Details

Who should attend?

This proficiency level course provides the delegate with knowledge and skills to be able to manage asbestos in buildings and in addition the information required to be able to conduct audits.

This is an ideal course for those persons responsible for managing asbestos in a building or estate, who have no real experience within the asbestos industry.

5 days including 1 day assessment.

We are able to offer courses of up to 8 persons on any one day.

Price

£720.00 plus VAT per delegate plus a £100.00 BOHS exam fee (price includes a breakfast, lunch and other refreshments throughout the day).

Course Contents

The course covers the basics of surveying of buildings for the presence of asbestos, bulk sampling and general guidance on management procedures necessary to minimise exposure to identified asbestos.

Other topics covered;

- Legislation – regulations and approved codes of practice.

- Asbestos in buildings – types and uses of asbestos in buildings.

- Asbestos remediation – preparation, enclosures, remediation measures and removal procedures.

- Role of laboratory – air monitoring and four-stage clearance procedure.

In addition to classroom based tutorials, delegates undergo practical assessments and role playing which helps combine all aspects of the course and helps give the candidate an overview of the situations that they may experience on site.

The course culminates on the final day with a 1hr 15min examination and a practical assessment. Candidates must pass both the written and practical assessments to be awarded the BOHS certificate.
