Reading: You can read and summarise information by selecting and using different types of documents to obtain relevant information; skim and scan documents to gain a general idea of content and identify the information you need; recognise the writer's intentions and identify the main points, ideas and lines of reasoning; summarise information to suit your purpose. Writing: You can present relevant information in a format that suits your purpose; structure your writing to help readers follow and understand your main points; spell, punctuate and use grammar accurately; construct complex sentences and make your meaning clear.
Interpret information: You can read and understand tables, charts, graphs and diagrams; read and understand numbers used in different ways; estimate amounts and proportions; make accurate observations and select appropriate methods to get the results you need. Carry out calculations: You can carry out calculations involving two or more steps, with numbers of any size, with and without a calculator; work with and convert between fractions, decimals and percentages; convert measurements between systems (e.g. pounds to kilograms); work out areas and volumes; work out dimensions from scale drawings; use proportions and calculate ratios where appropriate; compare sets of data of an appropriate size and use range to describe the spread within sets of data.
What qualification will I receive?
Students will receive the City & Guild Intermediate Construction Diploma
Where can it lead?
You can go on to study a level 3 qualification which is recognised as the technical certificate (City & Guilds) for craft training in the construction industry. The qualification is the advanced construction diploma.
What will I study?
You must complete a number of units in the necessary trade area (i.e. Carpentry, Brickwork, Plastering, Painting & Decorating
How will I be taught?
You will be taught through a mixture of technical study and practical training
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through your demonstration of practical skills and also the successful completion of City & Guilds multiple choice tests

You will have access to a personal tutor to help you throughout the course and the College offers a comprehensive range of student services, including learning support, language support and guidance.
