Bricklaying - Skills For Work (Level 1)

Short Description: This course equips you with the knowledge and skills required for a career in Bricklaying.

Course Aims:
Content:
Where will it take me?
Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress to a Level 2 Apprenticeship.

What's it all about? You will attend college for 2-3 days per week and 1-2 days will be spent on site.

Subjects studied will include:

- Safe working practices
- Information, quantities and communicating
- Building methods and construction technology
- Basic blocking skills
- Basic bricklaying skills
- Basic cavity walling
- Setting out and building basic masonry structures
- Straightforward brick/block walls

You will be required to complete Essential Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and IT if you do not have a GCSE grade C in English, Maths or IT

How will this course make me more employable? There will be periods of work experience on this programme - up to 3 days per week. Successful completion of the course shall lead to NVQ Level 2 and then employment in the bricklaying trade as an Apprentice. You may also have the opportunity to participate in the Young Enterprise NI Programme which will develop your employability skills and help you explore the idea of starting your own business.

How will I be assessed? You will be assessed through a series of written tests.

Why choose us? Students will gain the Construction Skills Register (CSR*) Red Card and a Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying.

*CSR - Construction Skills Register. This is an industry recognised card which demonstrates a minimum of Health and Safety training.
