This is a course for anyone interested in film culture and film history, with particular reference to British movies between World War II and 9/11. The course will seek to study five films which are outstanding in their own right but also expressive of a changing social landscape. They could range from the stiff upper lip of Brief Encounter or the sweaty working-class individualism of Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, through to the sex drugs & rock 'n' roll of Performance, the heritage culture of The Remains of the Day, and the multi-ethnic kingdom in My Son the Fanatic,

Course programme
The course will follow a broadly seminar-style format of informal tutor lectures combined with discussions involving all participants.
Note: Although the tutor will be showing and discussing key moments from each of the specified films, this course will not necessarily be viewing the featured films in their entirety.
