Summer Courses

An experience of a professional training environment. Each course lasts three weeks and is scheduled Monday to Friday evening (6.30 - 10.00) and all day Saturday.

There is no audition. Anyone willing to work hard for three weeks can take this course. Many students have never acted before.

Classes

A student will take classes in Movement, Voice, Dance and Stage Fighting. At the end of the course there will be a Singing showing and a performance of a contemporary play, both of which will have been rehearsed through the three weeks. All classes are taught by members of the faculty.

Crits

Although feedback will have been received from every member of staff throughout the course, this is a final session with all students and all staff present.

Pressure & Fun

Students on the course must be willing to work reasonably hard and to arrive for classes on time; there is some pressure. The course is designed to cater for all levels of ability and to be fun.

Why Do People Take A Summer Course

While there are as many reasons as people, perhaps the most usual is the person who feels themselves inexperienced, who may be considering a full time training, and who wants to test the water. Such a person will generally end the course with a considerably clearer picture of what they want and a greater knowledge of how they react in a training environment.

How old are they?

The average age of a student on the Summer Course is around 30 (older than the average for full time students). The age range, however, is as wide as it could be; teenage to 60s.

The Summer Course And The Full Time Training

The course should be taken for its own sake, but it is true that many students will aspire to the full time training. It is inevitable that many catch our eye with their work and ability. Such students may be offered full time places at the school.
