By the end of the course students should be able to:

• Converse with deaf people using British Sign Language.
• To understand and use a limited range of simple words and sentences in British Sign Language
• Take part in predictable conversation in British Sign Language
• Give and follow simple direction or instructions in British Sign Language

There is an opportunity for students to enter the Level 1 Certificate in British Sign Language examination upon receipt of an examination fee. Candidates who decide to enter for the exam will be tested on the above four points, which will comprise of short videoed assessments to gain the full level 1 Certificate. Those students who decide not to enter exam must be aware that some class time is taken up with assessment for award.
What are the entry requirements?

• No prior experience is required.
• NB class sessions need intensive concentration to follow the tutor's finger movements.

• Tuition fee £174.00
• CACDP exam registration £44.00
• Exam fees consist of 3 assessments and may be subject to change

Can I obtain a qualification?

• CACDP (Council for the Advancement of Communication with Deaf People) Level 1 Certificate

How are the candidates assessed for a qualification?

• Students entering the optional examination, will be internally assessed three time during the programme by their tutor.
• This process will be videoed and then externally assessed by CACDP
