Summary
This is for anyone who is hearing and has family, friends, colleagues who are deaf and for people who wish to acquire more in-depth knowledge of being able to communicate in British Sign Language.
About the Course
Students will be able to learn how to participate in everyday routine conversations using an appropriate range of conversational strategies. This will include using a wide range of vocabulary, without misunderstanding, asking for clarification, demonstrating grammatical features.
Topics will include:
* Getting to know each other
* Describing people, animals and objects
* Activities at home, work and leisure
* Eating and Drinking
* Shopping and Spending
* Travels and Holidays
* Health and Illness
Course Aims
To enable students to achieve the standard required for the three assessments:
* to understand a signed narrative
* to be able to sign a narrative
* to be able to have an in-depth conversation

What are the entry requirements?
How is the course assessed?
All assessments will take place at the end of the course and to be able to achieve BSL Level 2 Certificate you are required to pass all three units.
Unit 1 - Receptive skills: you will watch a DVD and answer a multi-choice question paper (20 minutes). Unit 2 - Productive skills: you will be telling a story lasting 3 -4 minutes. Unit 3 - Conversation skills: you and your tutor will conduct a 6 - 7 minute conversation. Both Units 2 & 3 will be videoed and all assessments will be sent to CACDP to be marked.
