About the Award

The safe use of brushcutters, clearing saws and trimmers requires safe, skilful competent operators. This qualification assesses those requirements in the context of the candidate's employment and also the safety of bystanders if this equipment is used in a public environment.

The qualification will also prove useful to local authorities, public utility companies and other employers in these sectors to demonstrate operator competence.

The Assessment

The Assessment establishes that the candidate has the relevant knowledge and understanding as well as the appropriate skill required for the competent safe use of a brushcutter, clearing saw or trimmer.

The Assessment is divided into four units:

  • Unit 1 - Maintain the brushcutter/Clearing Saw/Trimmer
  • Unit 2 – Operate a Brushcutter
  • Unit 3 – Operate a Clearing Saw
  • Unit 4 – Operate a Trimmer

Candidates must successfully achieve:

  • Unit 1 which is compulsory and either
  • Unit 2, Unit 3 or Unit 4 which are optional
