About BSc Accounting and Finance
You will study topics such as asset pricing, corporate finance, financial management, financial reporting, auditing, international finance, management accounting and taxation, as well as other units offered within the school.
In the first year you will gain skills across the core disciplines of accounting, economics, finance and mathematics before pursuing more specialised units as your interests develop.
In year two you will learn more advanced theory and techniques and study financial accounting, management accounting and corporate finance in more depth. We will teach you how to analyse data from quantitative models and you will choose two optional units. Many students choose Taxation and Foundations of Business Law as their options, which attract exemptions from professional examinations.
In your final year you will study financial markets and advanced corporate finance, plus five units from a selection of options. These options are mainly from within the School of Economics, Finance and Management or you may be able to choose a unit in law.
If you wish to extend your degree to four years you may do so with:
a professional placement;
a year studying abroad in English or;
a year studying abroad in a foreign language.
To take advantage of one of these opportunities you should usually apply through UCAS to BSc Accounting and Finance (NN43) then, during your studies, ask to be considered for:
BSc Accounting and Finance with Professional Placement
BSc Accounting and Finance with Study Abroad (for study in English)
All of these degrees include an additional year between your second and final years. Allocation of places is merit-based, depending on your first-year examination results. Note that direct, year-one entry via UCAS is available for BSc Accounting and Finance with Study in Continental Europe (NN34); entry to the other four-year programmes is by transfer from BSc Accounting and Finance (NN43).
