Course programme

This three year course provides a wide range of integrated contemporary modules, which focus both on economics and business. Alongside a set of compulsory modules, you will be offered a varied choice of optional modules giving you the ability to tailor your own learning to your interests.

Year 1

Compulsory modules in economics and business will begin the development of key skills and knowledge. You will study a variety of introductory modules from ‘Introductory Macroeconomics’ and ‘Introductory Microeconomics’ to ’Introduction to Financial and Management Accounting’.

Year 2

You will continue to strengthen your understanding of the macro and micro economy, alongside learning about the collection and analysis of data. In ‘Introductory Econometrics’ you will build your statistical skills, with the option to apply them in the form of a practical project designed to answer a research question in the module ‘Econometrics Research Project’. This module is also designed to enhance the employability of our graduates.

You will also have the opportunity to focus on and learn about the fundamentals of business strategy or the significance of increasing globalisation through the optional modules on offer.

Year 3

You will specialise in Industrial Organisation and Competition Economics, which will develop your knowledge of how markets operate and firms compete This is complemented by the option to take further macroeconomics, microeconomic and econometrics modules.

You will also choose further optional modules in economics and finance, which cover areas such as labour, public policy, corporate finance, financial markets, derivatives, risk management, history of economic thought, economics and business of sport, alternative investments, and environmental economics.

You will also have the option to take a dissertation during your final year.
