Course description
This course is full for January 2017 and is not recruiting for an intake for 2018 entry.
Practice-based learning is a style of learning for students who already have some experience of working in health and social care. It builds on skills and knowledge you already have as a support worker.
This course is suitable if you have around two years experience in a health and social care role, such as
• physiotherapy assistant in the NHS
• assistant practitioner in the NHS
• technical instructor in the NHS
Patient-focused work forms a large part of your development. You work with service users in practice in East Midlands for two to three days a week. The remainder of the time is spent in class with lecturers or studying using self-directed learning.
The course is an intensive, full-time 27 month course. It is shorter than the three year course because the placements run in parallel with the other modules. It is mostly taught in Lincolnshire, at Grantham and District and Boston hospitals. Each year you will have one or two sessions in Sheffield at the Collegiate Campus. You are taught by both Sheffield Hallam academics and experienced physiotherapy practitioner lecturers.
Your application is assessed as an individual case and may be accepted pending Sheffield Hallam and Strategic Health Authority approval.
Professional recognition
This course is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. Graduates are eligible to apply to register with the HCPC and apply to become members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. You must be registered with the HCPC in order to practise as a physiotherapist in the UK.
