The BA (Hons) Esports focuses on the business of esports. You’ll learn everything required to host small- and large-scale events including developing skills for single player and multi-player team events. You’ll have the opportunity to create business plans to build teams and create online communities and promote events through digital marketing. You’ll also explore the culture of esports, its audience and fan base as well as a variety of the most popular current game genres. As the sector grows, the ethical and legislative regulations are trying to keep pace and you’ll learn how these issues are affecting the esports environment.

You will benefit from a mixture of theoretical input but also the links between theory and practice to ensure the relevance of your studies to employability. This means you’ll develop solid business principles alongside contemporary sector knowledge, and plenty of hands-on experience working in areas related to your field of study.

About this course

This programme will give you the opportunity to demonstrate a clear understanding of the dynamics and complexity of Esports within a national and international context. You’ll also develop critical thinking skills that utilise knowledge of management principles and practices of Esports as well as learn a range of personal transferable and sector-specific skills and knowledge and make informed choices about a future career direction or proceed to further study.

You’ll build your knowledge so you can critically evaluate and apply relevant theories within Esports, discuss, examine, synthesise and apply conceptual understanding and knowledge of various processes within the Esports industry. You’ll develop the skills to critically appraise regulatory, economic, professional and political information from various sources throughout Esports events and operations, as well as develop and apply various strategies for Esports events. You’ll learn effective management strategies for Esports events and enterprises and prepare practical business-related studies (event plans, marketing plans etc.).

Specifically for esports there are careers in Esports Marketing, Event Management and Production – Esports, Esports Content Creation and Esports Analysis.

Entertainment in Stadia, Arena and Theatre venues require similar supervisory, operational and junior management roles. UEL is connected to a number of trade and professional associations whose membership comprises employers and operatives from across the events and Esports industries.

Completion of a HND or Level 5 programme in a related subject plus we would normally expect you to have Grade C in GCSE English and Maths.
