Course programme

BSc (Hons) Osteopathy

The BSc (Hons) Osteopathy is a five-year part-time degree course, delivered in collaboration with Middlesex and Keele Universities. This programme have successfully gained recognised qualification (RQ) status from the General Osteopathic Council.

The programme is specifically designed for those who are working full time, and those looking for a career change. The course is delivered over eighteen teaching weekends per year at Middlesex and Keele Universities. In addition to attendance at the teaching weekends, students are required to complete 1,200 hours in the teaching clinic as well as private home study.

Programme Information

Teaching at the College of Osteopaths is provided by registered osteopaths, as well as medical and educational practitioners. All staff are supported and encouraged to upgrade their professional and teaching skills so that students are taught by well qualified staff in a stimulating environment.

The College understands the pressures of combining part-time study with work and family commitments, and has developed a comprehensive student support strategy to assist with students' progression. Within the boundaries of University Rules and Regulations there is also the option of extending the length of the programme to six years for students who find Level three studies especially onerous.

Programme Structure

The BSc (Hons) osteopathy course is a modular programme, comprised of three levels of study; Levels 1, 2 and 3, each level becoming successively more academically challenging. There are, broadly speaking, three strands of modules extending over the three levels. These strands are 'Hands-on' modules, clinical modules, and academic modules.

Programme delivery is varied and includes lectures, workshops, self-directed home study and clinic-based learning. Initially the course is more focussed on self-directed home study while the latter part of the course is more clinic-based.

Students applying without minimum entry requirements or non-scientific qualifications may be offered the opportunity to complete College's foundation course.
