Course programme
Level 6 Module - 30 credits
Module Code: 6FHH1161
Optional Module - BSc (Hons) Respiratory Practice
Module Aim:
The aim of the module is to enable students to autonomously explore a topic or work related issue. It involves students identifying the chosen area for study, developing and negotiating a learning contract which will outline the what, how, when, where and why of the study period as well as the means of assessment to showcase the acquired learning.
Intended Learning Outcomes:
Knowledge and Understanding:
Successful students will typically be able to critically analyse the evidence underpinning a specific subject area.
Skills and attributes:
Successful students will typically be able to:
1. Critically evaluate and reflect upon learning achieved as a result of the study undertaken.
2. Propose recommendations for change, either personal or work-based, and dissemination dependent upon findings.
Module content:
Essentially this is negotiated between the student, academic tutor and, where appropriate (i.e. if employed or seconded), the employer. A briefing session will provide students with the structure for developing learning contracts, including such areas as study skills, research methods, writing learning objectives and reflection as appropriate. In addition, other overarching content will be negotiated on an individual basis.
The underpinning philosophy of this module is that it is student-centred and requires students to be self-directed in their approach to learning. Students will work with their appointed academic tutor on an individual basis regularly throughout the module. They will negotiate the number and nature of tutorials that will support the learning. This may take the form of online, telephone or face to face communication.
Module Assessment:
To be negotiated
Coursework : 100% Weighting: 100%
The individual learning outcomes and assessment strategy will be approved internally via the Negotiated Learning Approval Panel (NLAP) prior to commencement of the module. The assessment is negotiated between the student and academic tutor to demonstrate achievement of the learning outcomes.
The principle of 5,000 words or equivalency will govern the limits of the assessment strategy and may include, e.g. reflective essay; case
