Entry Requirements

5 GCSE's at grade C/4 including English, Maths, and at least two Science subjects. The Science subjects can be separate or combined GCSEs. A Merit or above in BTEC Level 2 Applied Science may be considered in place of Science GCSEs.

Summary

This course offers a comprehensive knowledge of Biology, Chemistry and Physics at an A-level standard, with added focus on industry standards, work-based approaches to lab techniques and procedures, and the impact of scientific enquiry on the wider world.
In the first year you will study towards a BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma, broadly the equivalent to 1.5 A Levels. If you successfully complete this year you may be able to progress on to a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science. The Extended Diploma deepens the specialist work-related focus and is broadly the equivalent of 3 A Levels, and can allow you to apply for science-related subjects at University level, whether Biology, Chemistry or Physics-related.

The course is made up of a variety of units which cover core content of all three sciences, which may include:
Structure and bonding and applications in materials science
Cell function, microscopy and health
Electromagnetic radiation and uses in science and technology
Laboratory techniques
Data collection and analysis
Enzyme structure and function
*Further study in fields of Biology, Chemistry and Physics

Additional information

Progression To progress on to the second year of study you must achieve a Merit grade plus exceptional attendance and disciplinary record. Further academic options could include study at degree or foundation degree level at University or College, or higher-level apprenticeships in laboratory science.
