The course is aimed at 16-19 year olds. No formal Entry qualifications are required. All applicants will be required to attend an interview to discuss their motivation for applying and complete an initial diagnostic assessment.

Course Content: The course introduces learners to the subject sport and recreation and enables them to investigate their own personal lifestyle. The course requires the students to achieve 6 units to enable them to complete the full award, these units include;

· Sport and Recreation Practice
· Investigating Sport and Recreation
· Investigating personal Lifestyle
Assessment is through a combination of internal and external assignments, and verbal discussion. These assignments can be completed during class time. Students must provide evidence of understanding the performance criteria required for the completion of each unit. Individuals will work towards the most appropriate level which will be gauged after initial assessment.
They will be able to work with support where needed for the completion of all classroom and assignment based work (which is completed in class).
Special Features: Students will be offered the opportunity to participate in trips and outdoor activities such as rock climbing, cycling, skiing and bowling.
Course Format: Full-time, 3 days a week.
Progression: Achievement is available at Entry Level 1, 2 and 3 with progression between levels possible. Students can also progress laterally across onto other Entry Level programmes or progress onto Foundation Level programmes (Sports Studies First Diploma, Public Services 1st Diploma). To progress onto higher level courses students must achieve at Entry Level 3 and a recommendation from their tutor.
