Who is this course for?
This learning programme is an introduction to the types of employment available within the health and social care industry. This full-time two-year learning programme contains practical units that support personal career development in Nursing, Midwifery, Pharmacology, Radiographer and Pathology. You will have an assigned Personal Tutor who will help guide your career development in line with the skills needed for different job roles throughout your two years. You will study a range of units that will develop the key employment skills of teamwork, communication and understanding needs of services user’s that are required by Health and Social Care employers. The course’s focus is a mix of academic and practical application of skills and will allow the student to practise the skills needed for a higher level course or employment. You will be assessed mainly through a variety of assessment methods that reflect industry daily life. In each year of your course you will be required to attend two one-week block work-placements in health and social care settings. These settings can include rehabilitation centres, hospital, pharmacist, day centre, care homes, schools and nurseries. Work placement will help not only with your coursework but will prepare you for work in the health and social care industry. You will need a minimum of five GCSEs grade C or equivalent and at least a grade C in both English and Maths.
What other experience will I gain?
You will gain invaluable experience of being taught by our industry experts who will design your lessons and assessments to reflect the level and the requirements of the sector. You will get many opportunities to take part in projects, volunteering and charity work. You will develop your independent and professional skills required to progress onto higher level programmes of study or uniformed services employment. There may be educational visits and visiting speakers that will help career development and these may need to be arranged outside your normal timetable. Community involvement is becoming an essential part of employer entry requirements and learners are encouraged to volunteer within the community.
