Course Content: This is a practical work-related course where you will learn by completing projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It covers the basic knowledge and technical practical skills, providing a good foundation for future career opportunities or progression to a more advanced work-related qualification.
A BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A* - C and may be taken as a full-time course. The course is made up of units including maths, science, engineering materials, CAD, CNC and workshop practices.
Special Features: The specialist units enable you to study a particular area in more depth. All units are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.
The units include: Applied Science for Technicians; Mathematics for Engineering Technicians, Working Practices in Engineering; Using & Interpreting Engineering Information, Engineering Marking out; Using CAD Techniques in Engineering; Programming CNC machines; Selecting Engineering Materials and Selecting & Using Machining Techniques to Remove Material.
Progression: A BTEC First Diploma can develop the skills needed to start or progress on to a Level 3 Engineering Diploma (with a C in maths GCSE), or on to a Modern Apprenticeship in areas such as Fabrication, Machining, CNC or Technical Services.
