The student should be a motivated individual who is able to demonstrate an awareness of music and music technology in areas such as live, studio and computer based settings. GCSE Music or the ability to play an instrument would be an advantage. A CD of music that the student has made themselves is also required.

Course content

Music business – an introduction to the workings of the music industry and its associated careers. Recording – an introduction to studio recording techniques. Sequencing – an introduction to computer based MIDI sequencing software and programming. Production project – devising, creating and producing a Music product. Key Skills – communication and information technology are also part of the programme.

Assessment

Continuous Assessment-through practical and written work

Progression

Successful completion of this programme plus a successful interview would allow progression to the National Diploma two year course.
