What are the Course Details?
This is a one year course aimed at learners who are interested in the area of Performing Arts. As well as having practical elements, this course also teaches you about the industry as a whole, the types of job opportunities there are as well as how to present yourself to a future employer and how to go about managing an event.

Is the Course for Me?
If you enjoy singing or can play an instrument, enjoy performing on stage or working in the wings, then this would be an ideal choice. The course is suitable for learners who wish to prepare for a career in Performing Arts or who are looking for progression onto a Level 3 programme.

What will I Learn?
As part of this course learners will study units such as:

  • Performing Arts Business
  • Production Process
  • Understanding Music/Drama
  • Acting or Working as a Musical Ensemble
  • Devising or Producing a Musical Ensemble

How will I Learn?
This course consists of practical and theory classes. Theory classes will involve producing research and written work. You will also have practical units in your chosen pathway i.e. Music or Drama, where you will develop your own personal skill level. You will complete at least one assignment for each unit that you study, which will include practical work. Functional Skills in IT, Application of Number and Communication will be included in the course.

How will I be Assessed?
The course is assessed through a range of activities such as projects and assignments all of which are put together to form a portfolio of work. You will receive feedback from your tutors in written and verbal form. All satisfactory assignments will be assessed at Pass, Merit or Distinction level. Successful learners will be awarded a final Pass, Merit or Distinction grade. Assessment is monitored by an external verifier who is appointed by the examining body.

What Enrichments are Available?
The College offers a wide range of enrichment opportunities such as visits to Alton Towers to enhance your experience at North Lindsey College. There are also a range of weekly classes available to develop the skills that students already possess or introduce you to completely new skills. Opportunities such as dance, survival cookery and a range of sports activities exist.

Are there any Trips or Visits?
Trips and visits may be arranged throughout the course where it is thought that they support the units being studied and will provide additional learning benefits.

Is there any Work Experience?
The public performances which are undertaken as part of the course are classed as work experience as we work in a professional manner following the procedures of a professional theatre/venue environment. In addition, in previous years students have also worked with theatre groups, backstage at music venues and professional theatres.

We encourage all our learners to gain as much professional experience as possible and would support students who were pro-active in finding their own experience.

What can I Progress to?
Successful learners will have the opportunity to apply to Level 3 courses for example, the BTEC National Award in Performing Arts. Learners studying on the First Diploma in Performing Arts also gain transferable skills such as good communication skills, confidence and strong teamwork skills, which are required in most areas of employment or on any other course.

Other Learner's Experiences;
Most learners progress onto higher level courses within the College before applying to university or gaining employment within the industry.

Devon Blood is currently enrolled on National Award in Music.
Danielle Southgate is currently enrolled on National Award in Performing Arts (Acting).

Please Note:
Acceptance onto courses may be subject to a satisfactory interview and references. For some courses learners may also be required to pay for a CRB disclosure.
