Is it for me?
This course allows you to take an initial qualification that will provide you with the opportunity to develop your skills and will also provide a foundation for careers in the Performing Arts.
What do I need?
There are no formal entry qualifications, however you will need an admissions interview. You will also need to demonstrate that you have the energy, enthusiasm and ability to work as a member of a team.
What will I study?
Activities are designed to give you a breadth of experience. The main focus is on drama, however, you will also gain experience in:

• Dance
• Music
• Stagecraft

You'll work with other students on performance projects in College, in local public venues and in various community settings and will get to put on a full-scale production at the end of the course.
Where will I study?
Baltic Campus
You'll be based at our fantastic £39million Baltic campus on the quayside. The campus has a prime location on Gateshead quayside, and state-of-the-art facilities including a Jacuzzi, gym and sauna, a 200 seat theatre, state-of-the-art classrooms, training kitchen and restaurant, refectory, bistro and vending areas.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed throughout the course by means of practical projects centred on performance, design and technical aspects of the theatre. Your written research and your practical work, will be evaluated. There are no formal examinations.
How will I be taught?
Students will work together on performance projects throughout the year culminating in a full-scale public production performed either in the College Studio Theatre or a local professional or community venue. The course is held in our purpose-built Performing Arts Studios.
What qualification will I get?
BTEC First Diploma in Performing Arts
Can I go on to further study?
If you would like to continue with your studies you could progress on to the BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts at Gateshead College.
What are the career opportunities?
Employment opportunities may be available in the theatre, television or film industries.
