About this course
You will need at least 4 GCSEs in the C-E range, preferably to include English and Maths or an appropriate Level 1 qualification such as a NVQ 1 or BTEC Introductory Certificate or Diploma.

This course gives you the opportunity to explore the key themes and
concepts of sport. It aims to provide a broad programme of study, which is directly related to the changing needs of employers in specific areas of the sport, leisure and recreation industries. This qualification is made up of six units, two core units and four specialist units.
The core units are:
· Health, safety and injury
· The body in sport.
The four specialist units are:
· Fitness for sport
· Technical and tactical awareness
· Lifestyle and sports performance
· Practical sports.
You will be given the opportunity to achieve additional qualifications
alongside your main course including Functional Skills.
How will I be assessed?
This qualification is assessed by coursework, which includes projects, assignments, presentations and practical activities. Tutors set the coursework for all the units.

Progression
On successful completion you may:
Progress to a Level 3, BTEC National Diploma in Sport or Sport and Exercise Science, or another Level 3 course in a different subject area, such as the BTEC National Diploma in Public Services or Outdoor Activities.
Or
Start an Apprenticeship in Sport (Coaching). As well as learning, you will develop the skills needed for employment in your chosen sector and earn a salary â€" see page 26 for further details.
Achieving this qualification will give you the equivalent of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C.
