BTEC First Diploma in Sport (Outdoor Education)
The course is designed to enable you to:
Gain a good qualification and improve your academic potential while at the same time develop your practical skills.
Prepare you for employment.

To develop life skills such as team work, communication, leadership and many others
General points to note
This qualification is at level 2 and is the equivalent of 4 GCSEs.
It is possible to get pass, merit, distinction and distinction*
All the assessment is coursework and there are no exams
This course is a good mix of practical and written work.
You do not need to have any previous experience of the outdoors but you should be willing to come and have a go at many outdoor sports in any weather conditions!
What you will do on the course:
The Body in Outdoor Sports
In this unit you will learn about the human body, how it works and how it responds to participating in outdoor sports.
Health, Safety and Injury in Sport
In this unit you will be taught about the risks and hazards and how to prevent them, how to deal with causalities and some first aid procedures. You will learn about different injuries and how to deal with them as well as how to complete risk assessments.
The Outdoor Sports Industry
In this unit you will investigate all the different parts of the sports and outdoor industries. You will consider why people like and do some activities and why some people do not. You will help come up with ideas to encourage greater participation in sport.
Practical Outdoor ands Adventurous Activities
Within this unit you will be have the opportunity to develop your skills in a wide range of different activities. You will have the chance to concentrate on two in some depth and develop your skill levels to a high level. Yow will need to monitor your own progress and demonstrate your improvements.
Leading Outdoor Activities
In this unit you will learn how to plan, deliver and then review a number of sessions that you will lead.
Expedition Experience
In this unit you will learn all about expedition and develop the skills needed to complete one. You will undertake an expedition in a location planned by the group.
Progression
Past students have progressed on to the National Award in Outdoor Education and a wide range of other advanced level courses. Some students follow employment opportunities in related areas and gain specialist qualification such as Mountain Leadership or Coaching.
