Course Content: This programme offers you the chance to complete the Foundation Diploma over the course of two years, part time. This highly praised programme offers you the chance to dip your toe in the water of creative practice or maybe to find your feet. This introduction to designing and making is very popular with students who range from school leavers to mature students looking for a career change. Within this course you will sample a range of disciplines which will educate and aid you in making more informed decisions regarding your progression on to further qualifications in Art & Design.

This course is also supported by studies into historical and contemporary artists and designers. Throughout the course you will study Life Drawing; Interactive Learning Technologies; Ceramic; 3D Design; Sculpture; Graphic Design; and Textile Design, specialising in the field of your choice. Project work, studio sessions, tutorials and group critiques will allow you to apply that knowledge where it counts; in expressing your own ideas and creative abilities.

Throughout the course you will benefit from outstanding teaching by an experienced teaching team, who are all practising artists and designers, within an atmosphere of support and encouragement.

Special Features: Through seminars, gallery visits, field trips and demonstrations, you will gain a strong understanding of creative production methods and develop your critical awareness of contemporary art and design practice. You will need to purchase basic materials, pastels, paints and brushes. In addition there are two non-compulsory study residentials. The total cost of attending these residentials is around £135. The college will supply specialist equipment and materials for the course.

Course Format: Student work is assessed on a continuous basis with students completing assignments and coursework, which are compiled into a portfolio.

Progression: Students progress on to a wide range of specialist Art & Design HND's and Degrees courses. Your tutor will advise you.
