The BTEC Introductory Diploma in Health and Social Care provides a broad educational basis for further training, further education or for moving into appropriate employment within the health and social care sectors.
What will I learn?
The qualification is made up of 8 units: Unit 1 Starting Work in Health and Social Care Unit 2 Working in Health and Social Care Unit 3 Developing Skills in Health and Social Care Unit 4 Personal Effectiveness Unit 5 Financial Management Unit 6 Images of People Unit 7 Looking After Children Unit 8 Exploring Local Services There is also an opportunity to obtain a basic First Aid qualification and the RSH Essential Food Hygiene certificate.
Assessment
Progress is monitored using a variety of
Assessment methods e.g. external testing of 2 units, assignment work and class work. Practical skills developed in placement situations with children and elderly people will also be assessed.
On Completion Achievement / Progression
The course provides the opportunity to continue in further education studying for the BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care which is offered at our Ystrad Mynach campus or to gain supervised employment within the care sector.

When we receive your application, you will be invited into the College for an informal interview and an initial
Assessment in literacy and numeracy. All applicants are subject to the provisions of the Children Act, so will undertake a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check and a simple health check.
