Description of the Course
The BTEC introductory Diploma is designed to encourage you to develop the personal skills and qualites you need for work, learning and help you to achieve your full potential. BTEC Introductory qualifications are intended as practical 'hands on' programmes with each one taught in the context of real jobs and careers in a chosen vocational sector. This gives you the chance to explore the opportunities offered in that sector, and to acquire appropriate vocational skills.
Course content
You will study eight units: three from the Core Units which everyone takes, two Compulsory Personal Skills Units and three Optional Units.The Optional Units enable you to study particular areas in depth.
The Core Units are:

· Starting Work in Health and Social Care
· Working in Health and Social Care
· Developing Skills in Health and Social Care.

The Personal Skills Units are:

· Personal Effectiveness
· Social Responsibility at Work
· Financial Management.

The Optional Units are:

· Looking After Children
· Images of People
· Health and Environment
· Exploring Local Services.

These Units will be assessed via an Introductory Project. You may be expected to go out on work experience placements with, for example, elderly people, young children or people with learning difficulties and disabilities.

Who is the course for?
This is an ideal course for school leavers who want a good grounding in Health and Social Care together with the chance to develop their reading and writing, numeracy and computing skills.
