Course programme
This course has core modules in Science and Maths, along with specialist units in Forensics. The specialist units cover Forensic Evidence Collection and Analysis, Forensic Fire Investigation, Forensic Photography, Criminal Investigation Procedures and Practices, Criminology and Criminal Psychology.
You will need four GCSEs at grade C or above (including any two of Science, Maths and English Language). Alternatively you can have a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Applied Science (at Merit or above), with English and Maths as part of a Functional Skills module.
Applicants will also need a good reference from a school or employer. You will complete an interview and assessment prior to enrolment.

You will be assessed throughout the course through written assignments, practical and theoretical tests, presentations and extended projects. There is no final exam.
Depending on your work experience, this course gives you the professional skills needed to become a police Crime Scene Investigator or a Forensic Science Officer in a forensics laboratory. The course is also the equivalent of three A-Levels, and so allows for progression to university in a range of science-related subjects.
