This is a broad-based Level 4 Horticulture programme for anyone interested in developing a range of higher and technical skills to work in the horticulture industry. It is also for people already working the industry who wish to enhance their career prospects by increasing their skill levels. This course provides the ideal route for those studying at Level 3 to progress to higher education.  Although this is a stand-alone qualification many will choose to continue to the full HND in the second year (Level 5).   Links with industry are maintained through work-based learning placements and projects.

Course programme

There are seven core modules that are taken at HNC level, covering basic underpinning knowledge and a wide range of relevant current vocational skills. You will also have the opportunity to select one of two option modules. The modules are: - Plant and Soil Science Project Management Human Resource Management Plant Selection & Establishment Plant Identification Event management for Land-based industries Organic Principles and Practice – in association with the Soil Association (this module is also available as a stand-alone qualification) Hard Landscaping Principles and Practice (this module is also available as a stand-alone qualification) Land Issues and Regulation (option) Students are required to attend a series of lectures, seminars and practicals. Some modules require individuals to undertake directed self-study with tutor support. Guest speakers from various industry-based organisations are used to give a workplace p erspective.
