You should have a broad education including, for example, a BTEC First in Business and/or four GCSEs (graded A-C*) and, in addition, the interest and potential to succeed in achieving the qualification.

BTEC National Award in Applied Law
Course summary:
This qualification gives you an understanding of the essential knowledge and skills needed to help you begin or progress in a broad range of careers in the business and legal sectors. The BTEC National Award can also open up further areas of study to you. The course is designed to be adaptable to your needs, abilities and career aspirations.
Course content:
The programme examines the workings of the Legal Justice systems including the origins and nature of law, and its supporting structures. Year one introduces the law in action through criminal law and negligence through the unit 'aspects of legal liability'. Substantive law is then further developed and new subjects introduced in the specialist year two.
Course structure:
The course consists of three compulsory core units (Year 1)
- Dispute Resolution in the English Legal System
- Understanding Law-making
- Aspects of Legal Liability
In year two the course builds upon year one through three specialist units:
- Unlawful Homicide & Police Powers
- Aspects of Property Offence & Police Powers
- Contract Law
Making a total of 360 Guided Learning hours (180 per year) 6 Units in all over two year.
Assessment procedure:
Each unit is assessed through a series of vocationally relevant assignments each allowing opportunity to achieve Pass, Merit and Distinction through a series of grading criteria.
Qualifications achieved:
Level 3 BTEC National Award in Applied Law (One A Level equivalence)
Progression opportunities:
Employment opportunities With the international recognition of BTEC courses such as this, you can progress straight into employment. If successful there are a variety of potential careers that you can explore, all of which will benefit from your studies, for example: legal secretary, paralegal or court administrative officer.
Further vocational and academic qualifications. The BTEC National Award in Applied Law has the equivalence of one GCE A Level, and it is possible for you to progress into higher education, as successful BTEC National qualifications give UCAS points for university applications.

Most full-time students do not have to pay for their course. We may also be able to help you with some of the extra costs associated with college, eg travel, childcare, equipment, books etc. In addition, if you have just left school, you may be eligible for an Educational Maintenance Allowance.
