Qualification: BTEC National Certificate (12 units) EDEXCEL,
BTEC National Award (6 units) EDEXCEL

Duration: 2 years
Travel and Tourism is an expanding industry and the BTEC course reflects the many varied aspects and challenges of the industry. You will study a number of important business units such as Marketing, Customer Service and Human Resources.
In other units you will explore specific aspects of the tourism and travel industry, for example Visitor Attractions, UK and Worlwide Tourism, Destinations, Hospitality or Tour Operations.
There are some practical units requiring you to work as a team for example, organise an event or arrange the residential visit in the 2nd year.
Assessment is through projects and coursework. Alongside the main course you will have language tuition and the opportunity to gain relevant additional qualifications. Relevant study trips are also organized.
You can study a full-time BTEC Travel and Tourism (Certificate) or combine either the certificate or the Award with A levels.

Qualification explained
BTECs are practical, work-related courses. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you develop the skills you need to start a career. The BTEC National Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels which means when you have finished the course you can choose whether to get a job straight away or go into Higher Education first. A BTEC National Award is equivalent to one A Level so it can be combined with other subjects. A BTEC First Diploma introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification. A BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A* to C and is normally taken at college as a full-time course.
