The BTEC National Diploma in Applied Science is a two year course. It is highly rewarding and provides a good alternative to Science AS/A2 Level. National Diploma in Applied Science

The BTEC National Diploma in Applied Science is a two year course. It is highly rewarding and provides a good alternative to Science AS/A2 Level. The core units will help you to develop a range of skills, including practical laboratory skills, presentation skills and written skills. At the end of two years you will have a portfolio of work which reflects the your efforts over the course period.

What will I be doing?
iDuring the two years of study you will take a mixture of core units and specialist units. The core units are:
  • fundamentals of science
  • working in the science industry
  • scientific investigation
  • scientific practical techniques
  • perceptions of science
  • application of numbers for science technicians

The specialist units have been selected to give a balanced range of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with some aspects of ICT also included.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through written assignments that are internally marked and externally moderated. There are no exams. The assignments can be passed at Pass, Merit or Distinction level. The total grade from these assignments will determine the equivalent grade at A Level and the associated UCAS points.

Where do I go from here?
Successful completion of this course will enable you to go on to university, into employment or undertake further training.
