If you enjoy science and prefer coursework, this course is for you. It
focuses on the application of science in the workplace.

The course will be delivered through:

· Lectures
· Crime scene investigations and law courts
· Practical laboratory work
· Visits to local industries and universities
· Presentations and talks by visiting speakers.

You will be given all the support you need to succeed through dedicated workshop sessions.

The topics you will study include:

· Fundamentals of science
· Working in the science industry
· Scientific investigation
· Application of numbers for science technicians.

You will also study twelve specialist units which may include:

· Statistics for science technicians
· Physiology of human body systems
· Microbiological techniques
· Chemical laboratory techniques
· Criminology
· Forensic evidence and collection analysis
· Criminal psychology
· Forensic psychology
· Traffic accident investigation
· Criminal investigation practice
· Forensic media and crime.

How will I be assessed?
By completion of projects and assignments that are based on
realistic workplace situations.

Progression
On successful completion you may:

Progress to higher education to study courses such as the FdSc
Environmental Health at Weston College, which is run in partnership with the University of West of England, or degrees in Forensic Science, Biomedical Science, Environmental Science or Law.

Or

Start a career as a Crime Scene Investigator or in the police force.

Achieving this qualification will give you the equivalent of 3 A Levels and provide entry to degree level study.
