Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy (AIQ Level 3) [PART TIME]

  • 9.5 weeks part time (Monday to Wednesday)
  • Start - Monday 13th June. Finish - Monday 15th August (2011)

  • The structure and function of the:
  • Circulatory system
  • Respiratory system
  • Skeletal system and joints
  • Muscular system

  • Nervous system

During this unit you also learn about the implications of exercise on young people, ante-natal and post-natal women and the older population (50+).

  • Unit 2: Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health

(Assessment method: Multiple choice theory paper)

  • The effects of exercise on the body
  • The principles of fitness
  • Exercise progression, training methods and programme planning
  • Safety guidelines for special populations
  • Monitoring exercise
  • The benefits of exercise for common health problems, discussing diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cancer, obesity and osteoporosis
  • The importance of healthy eating
  • Unit 3: Anatomy and Physiology for Sports Massage

  • We learn about the structure and function of:
    • The skin
    • The lymphatic system
    • The neuroendocrine system

You also learn how to accurately identify all the major bony prominences and their related soft tissues, including the location of joint articulations, ligaments, tendons and muscles and the effect sports massage will have on these structures.
