Introduction 2 years full-time
This course is designed to prepare you with a thorough basic knowledge of the Child Care and Education sector. Care for the client, at an early age, is a fundamental concept in the delivery of the course.
Units of study are integrated through assignment work and practical sessions. Guidance will be given, which will allow you to enhance and apply knowledge, develop understanding and practice skills in the Child Care and Education sector. Work experience forms an essential part of the learning programme. This includes most areas within the Child Care and Education sector e.g. nurseries, pre-schools, junior and infant schools, special schools and childminders. Your work placement will cover four age ranges throughout the two years.

Course Units The course will cover sixteen units:

· Positive Relationships for Children's Care, Learning and Development
· Positive Environments for Children's Care, Learning and Development
· Promoting Children's Development
· Reflecting on and Developing Practice for Children aged 0-8
· Safeguarding Children
· Promoting Children's Rights
· Children's Learning Activities and Play
· Research Methodology for Children's Care Learning and Development
· Promoting Wellbeing and Resilience in Children
· Diet and Nutrition for Children
· Physical Activities for Children
· Supporting Children's Numeracy Skills
· Supporting Children's Literacy Skills
· Environmental Studies for the Early Years Practitioner
· Modern Beliefs and Religions for the Early Years Practitioner
· Meeting Additional Requirements for Children's Learning and Development

Your course is enhanced by Functional Skills and qualifications, which include:

· Level 2 BTEC Award in Paediatric First Aid
· Functional Skills: Information Technology at Level 2
· Opportunity to re-sit GCSE Mathematics and/or English if necessary (this will be an evening class provision due to workplace commitments)

Your course will also include: assignments, project work, careers/higher education guidance and development of personal and social skills.

Assessment Assessment is continuous with interesting and relevant assignments for every unit studied, except for Professional Practice where a portfolio of evidence of competence is compiled.

Further Opportunities Successful completion will result in a Licence to Practice status and a wide variety of options will be open to you. Employment as a Nursery Nurse in a supervisory capacity after relevant experience, Teaching Assistant roles, progression to Foundation Degree in Early Years, degree level in Early Childhood Studies or Primary Initial Teaching or related degree courses such as Paediatric Nursing or Midwifery.

Entry Requirements
To Join the Course: You will normally need at least one of the following:

· 4 GCSE passes at grade C or above, preferably including English
· CACHE Certificate in Child Care and Education at merit level
· BTEC First Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development with overall merit profile
Mature students without formal qualifications who show commitment to the subject area may join the course following a successful interview. Please note: candidates wishing to progress to teacher training should gain English, Mathematics and Science at GCSE grade C or above.
