Engineering (ND1) - BTEC National Diploma
What will I study?
This is an academic course with practical content and is ideally suited for students who have a keen interest in the theory and application of engineering. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations.

How can I progress?
As this course is equivalent to 3 A-Levels, successful completion will qualify students for entry onto a HND/ Degree courses at university. Students may also choose employment in the engineering industry e.g as an engineering technician or in the armed services. It is ideally suited if students are interested in careers involving the design and maintenance of electrical, electronic or computer equipment.

What will I need to qualify for this course?
In order to qualify for this course students must have; *Four GCSE passes at grade C or above, preferably including Maths, English and Science, or *GNVQ Intermediate (Merit).

Course Structure
The course is made up of 17 units: 6 core units, which everyone takes include and 11 specialist units, which can be tailored to a students choice, dependant on their chosen career path. The core units include; Electrical & Electronic Principles, Mechanical Principals and Applications, Mathematics, Business Systems, Communications and an Engineering Project. The 12 specialist units include; Electronic devices and circuits, Electrical Technology, Electrical Installation, Engineering Workplace Practices, Three-Phase Systems and Electronic Fault-Finding.
