The Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering is designed for apprentices who have completed their apprenticeship framework or a candidate who has an NVQ Level 2 and the necessary experience and skills to cope with a Level 3 programme.The framework incorporates an NVQ Level 3, based on what discipline the candidate is working in, necessary Key Skills and either the City & Guilds 2800 or Btec.

Course Description
The Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering is designed for apprentices who have completed their apprenticeship framework or a candidate who has an NVQ Level 2 and the necessary experience and skills to cope with a Level 3 programme.The framework incorporates an NVQ Level 3, based on what discipline the candidate is working in, necessary Key Skills and either the City & Guilds 2800 or Btec National Technical certificates

Entry Requirements
Level 3 Work-based Advanced Apprenticeship learners will have to undertake a period of initial assessment, including a vocational aptitude test, and achieve between 50% and 70% in both Literacy and Numeracy Level 2 diagnostic tests.

Modules Studied:

  • NVQ Level 3 based on Apprentices working discipline
  • Technical Certificate, either City & Guilds 2800 Certificate in Engineering, or Btec National Certificate in Engineering Manufacturing
  • Key Skills Application of Number Level 2
  • Key Skills Communication Level 2
  • Key Skills Information Technology Level 2
  • Key Skills Working with Others Level 2 (unless completed on apprenticeship programme)
  • Key Skills Improving Own Learning Level 2 (unless completed on apprenticeship programme)

Attendance Modes: Day

Assessment: NVQ Level 3 is a portfolio of evidence gathered in the candidates workplace. C&G 2800 tech cert incorporates practical and written assessments. The Btec tech cert incorporates written projects and assignments. Key skills incorporates a portfolio and exams

Progression Routes: Completion of all component parts will generate a 'Framework Certificate' which is recognition that the candidate has completed their apprenticeship and is competent in their particular discipline. Btec Nat Cert qualifies for progression to HE e.g. HNC
