About this course

Students need at least 5 GCSE passes at Grade C or above and you must be over 16 years of age. (However, exception will be made for students with 4 GCSE Grade A-C who demonstrate at interview an exceptional ability within Art and Design).

Course Content: The National Diploma in Photography is designed to offer a gateway into the photographic industry or further study. This two year course is structured around eighteen mandatory units; these units present an opportunity for the learner to explore traditional and contemporary photographic materials, techniques and processes. Investment in digital technologies has meant that the student will have access to vital state of the art digital equipment and training. Students are encouraged to develop their own unique style with emphasis placed on the development of the students appreciation of photography as a method of visual communication and expression. Housed in a purpose built art school; the photography department consists of a professional standard traditional darkroom, studios and digital darkroom facilities. Course lecturers are working professionals and are able to offer the student an insight into current industry practice. The course will culminate in an end of year student exhibition.

Special Features: In the first term students will get the chance to gain skills in Animation and Graphic Design, along side studying Photography.

Students work in the purpose-designed Art School with the latest equipment and facilities for photography student. The Course culminates with an exhibition of student work. Past students have gone on to win national photographic prizes.

Course Format: The programme is primarily practical allowing you to learn by doing, in addition to this; written contextual and theoretical elements enhance your appreciation of visual communication and aid your development as an image maker. The majority of projects will attempt to recreate the world of work and encourage the learner to develop a unique style within their chosen field.

Progression: After completing the course, which is equivalent to 3 A-Levels, you will have the option of moving into employment in your chosen field or continuing your studies at University or College.
