Both these courses are coursework based and can be studied as a 12 unit (two A Level equivalent if studying the National Certificate) or 18 unit (three A Level equivalent if studying the National Diploma). The coursework is based on assignments and covers the following units:

· Fitness testing for sport & exercise
· Psychology for sports performance
· Sports nutrition
· Sports coaching
· Sports injuries
· Sport in society
· The athletes lifestyle
· Technical and tactical skills in sport
· Rules, regulations and officiating in sport
· Organising sport
· Exercise, health and lifestyle
· Instructing physical activity and exercise
· Analysis of sports performance
· Talent identification and development in sport
· Working with children in sport
If you enjoy coursework and are able to meet regular deadlines and know that your future career is sport based, then this could be the course for you. It covers some of the same topics that are covered on the A Level course but, the difference is that this course is assessed by ongoing assignments. There is practical work as part of the course but practical work needs to be written up and therefore there is a requirement to do considerable amounts of written analysis.
What can I study with this subject?
Any other AS courses that interest you, depending upon how much of this course you have selected. There is some overlap with Psychology, Sociology and Biology, but it is possible to study these courses alongside the BTEC Sport. It is not possible for students to study AS Physical Education alongside BTEC Sport.
Progression
The study of Sport can lead to employment or further study in a number of fields, including: sport, leisure and recreation management, teaching, the police, sports development, coaching, sports science and physiotherapy.
