Discover your personal freedom of expression through increased awareness of posture, style and movement.
Demonstrate your stage presence, deportment and walking style.
Handle various elements of costume with confidence.
Perform playful, elegant and sophisticated routines.
Recognise your ability to tantalise and tease.
Perform an original burlesque routine of your own creation.
You will need warm up kit - shorts and a vest top are ideal, also bring a bottle of water. Most weeks you will need high heeled shoes that are easy to remove and that are comfortable to move and dance in. Hold up stockings are also an essential for most classes - get 15 or 20 denier as these are more robust!
In class you will work as a whole group, in small groups and individually. During this course you will be guided through creating an original burlesque act, which you should practice at home. If you wish to participate in the end-of-course show, you will need to provide your own costume and makeup.

Course programme
We will study some of the historical and modern Queens of Burlesque, the icons of this empowering and expressive performance art form. We will practice burlesque posture, posing and dance movement, exploring different styles and characters to expand your repertoire. We will consider the practical elements of Burlesque costuming, hair and makeup. We will practice burlesque stage skills including stage presence, tease, costume manipulation and working with props. Hone your burlesque stage persona and craft an original performance routine (or refine an existing one).
The course will take the form of six workshops each exploring a different facet of burlesque technique and style. Certain workshops require you to bring basic costume elements. Do not be put off by this, what they look like is not important, the emphasis is on skill development not appearance!
