About this course

You must be working in an administrative role, ideally a supervisory role, which enables you to provide sufficient evidence to meet the requirements of four of the optional units listed below. Your assessor will discuss the optional units with you during an initial visit.

Course Level 3

Description
An NVQ is based on providing competence in areas of administration within a typical office environment. The qualification is divided into several areas:

  • Answering questions on skills and knowledge
  • Providing work products that you have produced as part of your job role.
  • Observations by an NVQ Assessor who will record what you do in your job role.
  • Witness testimonies a signed statement from your Manager or Supervisor to verify that you are competent in a certain area/s.


    Course Length
    9 12 months. As you work at your own pace some people achieve in a shorter time.

    What will I study?
    The qualification consists of 6 units in total. These are drawn from 2 mandatory core units and 4 optional units from groups A and B (at least 3 optional units must be chosen from Group B).

    How will I learn?
    You will be given a list of mandatory and option units to select those options that best reflect your job role. Help will be given on how to put a portfolio together, gather appropriate evidence and answer the underpinning skills and knowledge. Attendance can be by day release or in-house at your place of work.

    How will I be assessed?
    An individual learning plan will guide you through the units, with support and feedback from your college tutor and NVQ assessor. Assessment plans will also be drawn up to advise on what type of evidence to collect. Your Assessor will then verify your evidence and sign off the units when sufficient evidence has been recorded.
