This course prepares you for an exciting career addressing business and policy challenges in a quantitative, evidence based way. We’re one of the first Russell Group universities to offer this subject at undergraduate level.
You will acquire skills, knowledge and experience in the use of statistical and analytical techniques to support evidence-based decision making. You’ll study data analysis with practical and theoretical aspects of decision making and the fundamental business disciplines of management and economics. In addition, you can tailor your degree to your own interests through your choice of optional modules on topics such as sports analytics, business economics and marketing.
Demand for experts in business analytics is growing rapidly, and the University of Leeds is at the forefront of developments in this area. Informed by the internationally recognised research in our Centre for Decision Research, much of which is applied, this course will give you the in-depth knowledge and skills to thrive in a fast-growing sector.

About this course

Business analytics is a rapidly growing employment sector as companies demand experts to help them capitalise on the Big Data Explosion. This course launched in 2015, and so our first students are yet to graduate.

A-level: AAB including Mathematics or Statistics.
GCSE: English Language grade B/6 or equivalent, or an appropriate English language qualification.

Course programme

Our degrees have a modular structure. This means that compulsory modules provide you with the core knowledge and skills that you need, while optional and discovery modules allow you to shape your course to suit your personal interests and career aspirations.


Compulsory modules in Year 1 will give you a broad knowledge and skills base covering analytics and management. You’ll be introduced to economic theory and organisational behaviour to put the role of analytics in the context of the business environment, as well as exploring some of the key methods and techniques used in analytics. An optional module will also allow you to explore topics such as sports analytics, marketing or further economics.


In the following year you’ll build on this with compulsory modules in analytical methods, evidence based consultancy and management decision making, all led by the internationally recognised Centre for Decision Research, along with further work on economics. You can also choose from optional modules on marketing, operations and supply chain management, information management and topics in economics.
