Qualification: CITY & GUILDS NVQ LEVEL 2, 3 & 4

Description:
NVQs in business improvement techniques are work based qualifications for those employed in engineering and manufacturing. The main objective of the award is to empower people through training and education to improve manufacturing and production activities. The award is suitable for all those employed in a manufacturing business, as the NVQ is available to suit various levels:

NVQ LEVEL 2
For team members, eg operators, who need a fundamental understanding of improvement techniques.

NVQ LEVEL 3
For supervisors, team leaders, or technical team members who need a more in-depth understanding.

NVQ LEVEL 4
For managers with specific responsibility for achieving business objectives, and for those who need an in-depth understanding or who deliver continuous improvement training.

There are two pathways - process and quality.

PROCESS PATHWAY
Units can include: continuous improvement (kaizen),workplace organisation (5S/5C), applying set-up reduction techniques (SMED), applying total productive maintenance (TPM), applying problem solving, and statistical process control (SPC).

QUALITY PATHWAY
Units can include: six sigma methodology, basic statistics, process mapping, applying mistake proofing (Poka Yoke), and failure mode effect analysis (FMEA).

Both pathways include units such as team working and regulations & safety requirements.
