The Programme
This subject provides a contemporary, dynamic course of study which relates theory to the business problems and solutions arising in the real world. The course will explore current business issues - eg entrepreneurship, customer service, international marketing and globalisation.
The Programme Content
In year one students will study two units: -
Planning and Financing a Business - which focuses on starting up a business and includes topics such as Entrepreneurship, Business Planning and Financial Management.
Managing a Business - which focuses on managing an established business more effectively through such topics as the Marketing Mix and Improving Profitability.
There may be a possibility of studying an Economics and Business module which explores the wider economy.
In year two, students will study a further two units: - Strategies for Success and The Business Environment and Managing Change. These units will involve looking at the strategic level of the business world, focusing on larger organisations, often in an international context.
Progression / Careers
Following such a course of study will provide the stimulus for more specialised study of a related discipline eg Marketing, Accountancy and Management courses at university.
Students who wish to progress directly into full time employment, eg as an Accounting Technician, will find that a knowledge and awareness of economic and business issues will be an invaluable asset.
