Course programme

Overview of the course:

You will cover a mixture of theory and practical activities and will follow one of three pathways: Horticulture, Animal Care or Agriculture. The Houghall estate provides the ideal environment for you to gain practical skills and knowledge and also gives you the opportunity to develop essential employability skills.


Topics covered in the course: Maths & English, Estate skills, Health and safety and safe working practices, Work experience, Lawn and plant maintenance, Caring for small animals, Caring for farm livestock, and Conservation.

Further study options after this course:
Following successful completion of the course, progression options include the level 2 diploma in animal care, level 2 diploma for veterinary care assistants, level 2 work based diploma in environmental conservation, and level 2 diploma in practical horticultural skills.
