Course Overview:
Learners will be expected to possess a sound knowledge and experience of administration systems in the workplace. This qualification is ideal if you want to gain a qualification which recognises and confirms your skills and competence in a range of administrative tasks or if you are aspiring to progress to a supervisory or team leading role in the future.
The QCF/ NVQ offers a wide range of job-specific optional units covering topics such as:
using office equipment
producing documents
storing and retrieving information
handling mail
making and receiving telephone calls
using electronic message systems
providing reception services
meeting and welcoming visitors
using diary systems
researching, organising and reporting data
solving business problems
supporting the organisation and/or the co-ordination of an event
supporting the organisation of business travel or accommodation
maintaining and issuing stock items
The City & Guilds Level 2 QCF/NVQ Certificate in Business and Administration is aimed at those:
performing daily tasks in business and administration and wish to develop and enhance their skills and knowledge further
already working in an administrative role within an organisation.
The qualification can help you build on your existing experience and improve your skills and prospects of getting a more senior role in the workplace.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will have:
attained an accredited qualification
a QCF qualification that gives you greater flexibility when studying and allows you to transfer credits across qualifications. You will be awarded credits for each unit you complete.

Entry Requirements:
We would require a pre-course meeting to discuss the course and to establish that this level is suitable for you. We will also check that the candidate has the ability to demonstrate competence in working practices within their current work role.
There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking this NVQ; however candidates must have the potential and opportunity to gain evidence for the qualification in the work place and ideally should be employed in a business and administration role. Therefore, employer agreement and consent is essential.

Course programme
Course Delivery:
The NVQ is a competence based qualification, delivered through work based learning. Once an individual training plan is agreed and set up with the candidate, then the assessor will provide the necessary support and guidance.
The assessor will assist the candidate in identifying suitable evidence and assessment methods for each unit. Depending on the unit selected, assessment can be carried out by a variety of different methods e.g. to cover ‘performance’ the candidate portfolio can include evidence such as work products (copies of documents etc), assessor observations, witness testimony and written answers or verbal questioning can be used to confirm knowledge and understanding.
To achieve the Level 2 QCF/NVQ Certificate in Business and Administration, learners must achieve a minimum of 21 credits in total.
This is made up of nine credits from the mandatory units in Group A
Level 2 Mandatory Group A
Unit 201 – Manage own performance in a business environment
Unit 202 – Evaluate and improve own performance in a business environment
Unit 203 – Work in a business environment
Unit 204 – Communicate in business environment
Optional Group B (minimum of seven credits required from this group)
Unit choices are extensive reflecting the diverse business and administration roles in various industries and organisations – examples of unit topics are listed in the course overview above.
Optional Group C (0-5 credits allowed from this group which includes IT imported units)
Also, there is scope to choose some Level 1 or Level 3 units to make up the credit values, however at least 14 credits must be achieved from Level 2 units.
