Unit 1 – Enabling children to learn

  • Learning Outcome 1 – Understand the role of the Advanced Practitioner in enabling children to learn in early years settings
  • Learning Outcome 2 – Understand the statutory framework for early years practice in own country
  • Learning Outcome 3 – Understand the influence of pedagogical approaches on early years practice
  • Learning Outcome 4 – Understand monitoring and assessment in the early years

Unit 2 – Promoting health and well-being through physical activity and nutrition co-ordination (PANCo) in the early years

  • Learning Outcome 1 – Consider current statutory framework requirements for early years settings in relation to physical development, food and nutrition
  • Learning Outcome 2 – Analyse the impact of existing research in relation to promoting physical activity and healthy eating
  • Learning Outcome 3 – Critically evaluate partnership working in relation to physical development and healthy eating
  • Learning Outcome 4 – Understand well-being programmes in early years settings

Unit 3 – Working with others to support children with additional needs, including Special Educational Needs and Disability

  • Learning Outcome 1 – Understand current frameworks for inclusive practice
  • Learning Outcome 2 – Consider provision related to children’s additional needs
  • Learning Outcome 3 – Consider the role and responsibilities of the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) in early years settings

  • Learning Outcome 5 – Reflect on own setting’s policies and procedures to support children with special educational needs or disabilities

Unit 4 – Working with families and other professionals in early years settings

  • Learning Outcome 1 – Understand requirements for partnership working in early years settings
  • Learning Outcome 2 – Understand the diverse needs of families and how these are addressed in early years settings
  • Learning Outcome 3 – Consider partnership working with families in early years settings
  • Learning Outcome 4 – Consider how to lead, coach, mentor and educate staff in own setting in relation to partnership working

Unit 5 – Implementing change in an early years setting incorporating a small scale research project

  • Learning Outcome 1 – Understand the use and purpose of research
  • Learning Outcome 2 – Plan a research project
  • Learning Outcome 3 – Understand how to present findings to others
Assessments

To pass this course learners must pass 4 written assignments, 1 project and 3 practical assignments. Once these have been read and marked by your personal tutor, feedback and marks are provided to students which contain helpful tips to improve work in future assignments.
